Prince Doran Martell - A Game of Thrones (1996)

The current head of House Martell and ruler of the Kingdom of Dorne, Doran Nymeros Martell was the husband of the Lady Mellario, fathering three children Arianne, Quentyn and Trystane. He was the Lord of the Sunspear, living in the Dornish seat of power.

He was the brother of Oberyn and Elia Martell, holding great resentment towards Tywin Lannister and his bannermen for the deaths of his sister, niece and nephew during the Sacking of King's Landing.


"Sansa V"

After Joffrey Barathen is made the King of Westeros, Grand Maester Pycelle reads out a Royal Decree at court, which states that all those named in his list must come to King's Landing and swear fealty to the new monarch or they would be seen as enemy to the crown. Doran's name was on the list as well as all of his sons, ignorantly overlooking the custom of the Dornish that states that the eldest child (Arianne) will next be in line for the title of ruler of the Sunspear.

Sansa Stark internally questioned the number and mused how it would take a lot of Ravens to get the message out, as well as how many enemies that the crown appeared to have.


"Eddard VX"

Whilst visiting the captured Eddard Stark in the black cells, Varys mentioned that Cersei will visit him tomorrow to discuss terms of an allainace - sparing him from the King's Justice if he swore fealty to Joffrey.

When asked why, Varys replied that the Queen Regent knew she had many enemies and did not think that the Martells would ever bend the knee to a Baratheon King when they had any ties to House Lannister.
