The current Lord of Highgarden and Warden of the East, Lord Mace Tyrell was a staunch supporter of House Targaryen, since King Aegon Targaryen historically gave them the position and the seat of power at Highgarden.The eldest son of Luthor and Olenna Tyrell (nee Redwyne), Mace had two sisters Jana and Mina. He was married to Aleria Hightower, who bore him four children - Garlan, Willas, Loras and Margery.
During Robert Baratheon's Rebellion against King Aerys II Targaryen, he took up arms and led his forces against the rebellious Lord of Storm's End at the Battle of Ashford, going on to defeat Robert and force the latter to retreat.
Later during the Rebellion, Mace and the Tyrell forces (backed by his numerous bannermen, including Paxter Redwyne) besieged the ancestral home of the Baratheons for approximately one year, forming a blockade around the castle and ensuring that Stannis Baratheon could not escape or aid in his brother's efforts against the crown. However after the murders of Prince Rhaegar and King Aerys II, he eventually surrendered and swore fealty to House Baratheon, who allowed him to keep his lands, titles and duties.
