"The Common Smuggler" - The World of Ice and Fire (2014)

During the siege of Storm's End by Mace Tyrell and the other members loyal to the Wardens of the South and the Crown, a well known smuggler managed to navigate his boats successfully past the blockade formed by Paxter Redwyne in the dead of night, supplying to the starving garrison and their commander, Lord Stannis Baratheon with enough onions and salt fish to last them long enough to keep hold of the Baratheon's homestead.

His efforts were rewarded and he went on to become known as Ser Davos Seaworth, who chose "The Onion" as part of his house's sigil, leading to him being known as the "Onion Knight."
