Ted Kord - Young Justice Comic (2011)

The C.E.O of Kord Industries and the inventor of much of his own tech, in 2011 he took up the identity of Blue Beetle.

He was believed to have been responsible for the creation of the Scarab that would go on to grant Jamie Reyes his powers as the new Blue Beetle after his murder.

Ted was personal friends of Richard Grayson.

Analysing the data they had gathered on the new Blue Beetle, Nightwing noted that Jamie Reyes had no connections with Ted Kord, however was inspired by the hero and decided to take on the mantle himself.


"Players, Chapter Two; Directly to Jail"

Wanting to honour his friends memory, Nightwing offered Blue Beetle the chance to join the Team and train with them.
