Lord Jon Arryn - Complete Guide to Westeros (2011)

The Lord of House Arryn, Jon Arryn resided in the Eyrie, the ancestral seat of his family, the Wardens of the East and rulers of the Vale of Arryn. He was the Lord Paramount of the Vale, a title which had been passed to him by his father.

He fostered both Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon when they were children, remaining loyal to them both as they grew older. When King Aerys II demanded both of their heads for supposed treason - having just overseen the murders of Lords Rickard and Brandon Stark - Jon refused the decree and instead called for the Knights of the Vale to challenge the rule of the "Mad King."

To forge an allaince with House Tully, Jon and Eddard married Lord Hoster Tully's two daughters Lysa and Catlyn, helping Robert to take the Iron Throne.

With his new wife, he bore a young heir of House Arryn, Robyn. Both Robyn and Lysa moved with him to King's Landing.

For his loyalty and council, he was made the Hand of the King. In his first act as the adviser, he negotiated a peaceful truce between the crown and Dorne, condemning the actions taken against Princess Elia Martell (by Ser Gregor Clegane) during the Sack of King's Landing and her brutal murder.

Jon continued to operate as the Hand for the remainder of his life, until he died from mysterious circumstances.

Lady Olenna Tyrell - Game of Thrones Season Seven (2017)

Over the years, Lady Olenna Tyrell was given much council on how to act and behave by the male courtiers she labelled as "clever men". However she ignored all the advice they had given her, coming to the conclusion that because all these men had died whilst she lived, the best way to survive was to think independently and not let them underestimate her because of her gender.

In an effort to protect her family from harm, she had either personally carried out or ordered numerous - what she deemed to be "unspeakable" - acts with no hesitation or regret for her actions, viewing them as necessity to their survival. Among these action was her partnership with Lord Peter Baelish, who supplied her with the means to put the Strangler inside Joffrey Baratheon's wedding cup and pin the blame on Tyrion Lannister and Sansa Stark.

She was the only surviving member of House Tyrell, after Cersei Lannister used wildfire to destroy the Sept of Baelor and everyone in there. She was intrigued by Varys proposal of "Fire and Blood" and committed the Tyrell army to both Daenerys Targareyen and the Targaryen restoration when it was proposed to her at the Sunspear.

Operating out of High Garden, Lady Olenna Tyrell openly rebelled against the rule of House Lannister and Queen Cersei.

"Stormborn"

Summoned to Dragonstone to sit on Daenerys' war council, she sat in silence as Yara Greyjoy and Ellaria Sand petitioned the Queen that they should strike King's Landing with all they had and end Cersei's rule then and there.

Listening to Daenerys' statement that she would not be the "queen of the ashes", Olenna sarcastically remarked that it was good to hear, however that is what became of the previous Queen - her granddaughter Margery - who was well loved and respected by the people of Westeros. She went on to say that she would never earn the love and respect she demanded without fear, comparing the people of the nation to "children."

Demanding to know how Daenerys wanted to take the Iron Throne if they would not attack King's Landing, she coldly asked if they were just going to "ask them nicely".  Learning that the Tyrell army would be deployed to areas around the capital with the Greyjoys and Dorne, she questioned why they even bothered to bring the Unsullied and the Dothraki, if she was not going to use them in battle. When asked if she had there support, Olenna silently nodded her approval.

Requested to stay behind at the end of the meeting, Daenerys tried to reassure her that they would get vengeance on Cersei for the decimation of House Tyrell at the Sept of Baelor, and that they would have peace when she was on the Iron Throne. However Olenna retorted that no monarch had true peace in the world. Imparting advice to the young queen, she expressed her belief that the reason she had survived so long in the courts of Westeros was because she ignored the council of "clever men". Musing on the notion that the Lords of Westeros were "sheep" that would switch allegiance with very little pressure put on them, she told Danerys that she should embody the Targaryen name and be "the dragon."

"The Queen's Justice"

Going to investigate the report that the Lannister forces - backed by House Tarly - were marching on Highgarden, she watched from her balcony as the soldiers stormed the ancestral home of House Tyrell.

Realising that her forces were not match for the oncoming legion, she waited in her private quarters for Jamie to come to her with news that the castle had fallen.

Addressing the Captain of the Lannister army as he entered the room, she sardonically quoted the "Rains of Castamere" to him. Asking if they fought well, she admitted that they were not the best when it came to military prowess, adding that they lived up to the sigil of the "Golden rose" for their occupation mainly being that of farmers. As Jamie poured them both a glass of wine, she expressed her surprise that they had not been at Casterly Rock to defend it from the Unsullied. Olenna complemented his ability to learn from his mistakes, however also ridiculed him by stating he must have been "very wise." Hearing Tywin's name being mentioned, she wondered why - if the Lord of Casterly Rock was as intelligent as he gave himself credit for - he had not plundered High Garden after all of the gold ore from his seat had dried up. However she shrugged this off as she would be joining him in the afterlife soon enough and could ask him that in person. Asking him how she was going to be executed, she looked to Widow's Wail expectantly, recognising it to be Joffrey's wedding gift. Upon hearing the name, she remarked that he was a horrible and repulsive creature.

Admitting to have done whatever she thought to be right for the preservation of her House, Olenna told Jamie that what Cersei had done was beyond what she could have thought was capable of any rational person, blaming herself for not foreseeing such an event. She remarked to Jamie that Cersei was "a monster" and called him a "poor fool" who was so blinded by love that he could not see that she was leading to his downfall.

As Jamie attempts to leave, finding the conversation with her to be beneath him and pointless, she reminds him that she was going to die anyway, so anything he reveals would be safe. However she agrees with him that it was pointless trying to convince him of her insanity - calling her a "disease I regret my part in spreading," - repeating her question about how she will be executed after seeing she had gotten to him.

Disgusted at Cersei's suggestions of execution methods, she is grateful to Jamie for providing her with a poison that would result in a painless death, drinking down the entire of poison laced wine in one go.

Fully aware she had nothing else to lose, Olenna mused that she was going to die in a far less violent manner that Joffrey did. Continuing her recount of the events of the murder, she
sympathised that it was horrible for them both to witness; for Jamie as Joffrey's father and sworn guard, and for her as she had never seen the effects of the poison in person. She went on to say that she regretted how gratuitous it was, finally confessing that it was her who killed Joffrey - requesting that he tell Cersei it was her. She stared him down in silence, before he took his leave, enjoying having the final laugh as the poison began to take effect.

The Wight Viserion - Game of Thrones Season Seven (2017)

Formerly a dragon belonging to Queen Daenrys Targaryen, Viserion was named after her brother Viserys, and was brought to Westeros by his "mother" after she left the free city of Mareen.

He flew North with Danerys and his brothers Drogon and Rhaeghal to aid Jon Snow and his hunting party, using his fire breath to burn the army of the dead that had surrounded them. However he was so distracted by attacking the Wights that he did not notice a White Walker give the Night's King an ice spear. He was hit in the neck by the magical barb, sending him plummeting down to earth and smashing through the frozen lake.

"Beyond the Wall"

Following his death at the hands of the Night's King, Viserion's corpse was dragged to the surface of the frozen lake by the Wights. Once safely on land, the Night King knelt by his body and touched his forehead, using his powers to resurrect the fallen dragon. Opening his eyes, his once green irises had turned blue.

"The Dragon and the Wolf"

Acting now as the mount for the Night King, Viserion flew to the occupied keep of Eastwatch by the Sea, blasting the Wall with his flames - now the same blue colour as his eyes. Circling around for another attack, he managed to melt through the 8000 year old wall, sending melted rock and wood crashing down on the desperately fleeing Wildings.

Concentrating on one spot, Viserion brought down a large section of the Wall, leading the White Walkers and their armies of Wights into the main body of Westeros.

Maester Caleotte - A Feast For Crows (2005)

A maester in the service of Prince Doran Martell and his court at the Martell families' retreat of the Water Gardens, Caleotte tended to the Prince's gout, as well as the other duties designated to members of the Orders of Maesters; tutor, healer and councillor. He had been in the service of the Martell Family for many years, serving Doran's mother when she was the Princess and Lady of the Sunspear.

As a child, he was fortunate enough never to contract the disease redspots, which could be lethal to those who catch it when they were adults and only occurred once.

To aid his Lord in his mobility, Caleotte designed and built a wheelchair for Doran, that could be moved by the Prince himself or by the Captain of his guard Areo Hotah.

He was considered to be extremely clever and wise with his council by the members of his court, however "meek".

"The Captain of the Guard"

Receiving a raven from King's Landing addressed to Prince Doran, Caleotte felt unnerved by sight of the scroll, entrusting Hotah to personally hand it to the Lord of Sunspear in his place.

Caleotte tried desperately to catch up with Obara Sand, trying desperately to calm her down and explain that Prince Doran had already heard about Oberyn's death at the hands of the Mountain, however the enraged Sand Snake moved too quickly for him to do so.

He remained after the confrontation between Obara and her uncle, attending to Doran and asking if he needed to take a draft to ease the pain of his gout, however the Prince dismissed the suggestion with the fact that he would need to keep his faculties. Wondering if it was safe to allow her to return to the Sunspear alone - where she could attempt to inspire the people of Dorne to avenge their beloved Prince Oberyn - Doran said that he would go there too.

Noting his Prince's instructions to send a messenger ahead of him to prepare his apartments in the Tower of the Sun, he again wondered if what he was doing would be a dangerous move, but Doran once again shrugged of his concerns as a need for necessity. He warned the Prince that he was under constant scrutiny from Ser Arys Oakheart of the Kingsguard, who was in constant contact with Cersei Lannister and the Small Council. Bowing as he received his final instructions, Caleotte went to carry out his orders and organise a litter to transport Doran back to his ancestral home.

Caleotte set out with Doran and his party on a donkey, riding behind the litter as the procession made their way to Sunspear.

After Tyene Sand was dismissed from the throne room, the Maester rushed to see whether Doran's niece had scratched him during her heated discussion, relieved that she had not done so. On his command, he rushed to get the Prince a "thimble full" of Milk of the Poppy to numb the pain.

"The Queenmaker"

Believing that Princess Myrcella had been infected with redspots - not realising it was a lie to get her out of Sunspear - Caleotte gave Ser Arys a special ointment that would help stop the infection from growing worse, adding that they would just need to give her time to rest and recover.

"Princess in the Tower"

Following Areo Hotah's return to Sunspear with the wounded Myrcella, Maester Caleotte took the young Lannister into his care. Although he managed to save her life, he was unable to completely heal the deep gash and missing right ear that she had sustained from Ser Gerold Dayne, no matter how many "poultice or potions" she was treated with.

He informed Prince Doran that his ward was going to live, who was both relieved and furious that his plans for revenge against the Lannisters had almost been destroyed by his daughter Arianne's impatience.
