A being fuelled by anger, rage and hate, Atrocitus was a ring wielder and member to the Red Lantern Corps. Able to look into the future using blood rituals, he saw a dangerous threat in the form of William Hand, believing that the human would bring about great death across the universe. In response to this, he killed Hand, however that only ensured that the Embodiment of Death rose and began to conquer the living.In another ritual, he discovered the presence of a timeline very similar to their own, only it was not consumed in all out war.
Atrocitus was regarded with much fear for what he his crimes, which he was punished for by being crucified on the planet Ysmault.
"Emerald Isolation"
Seeking information on the prophecy of Flashpoint, Thaal Sinestro travelled to Ysmault in order question the imprisoned Atrocitus. He mockingly asked where was Sinestro's backup, taking great pleasure in being needed as a last resort and perceived as a great threat. He was ordered by the Green Lantern to reveal what he knew about the Flashpoint prophecy.
"Emerald Connection"After telling Sinestro everything that he needed to know about the Flash's actions to change the Universe, the Green Lantern crushed his head, killing him instantly. However as a parting threat, Atrocitus warned Sinestro that Abin Sur would pose as a threat for Thaal's plan to use the Flash to create a new universe that would be in his control - ensuring that the apprentice would seek out and kill his friend and mentor.
